What does Spero's Hope do?
Spero's Hope is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping unemployed and underemployed New York City workers.
Our pro bono services include resume development, interview coaching and the identification of job openings, thereby promoting a successful job search.
We have selectively offered vocational tuition assistance, enabling select non-college educated individuals to obtain certifications for trade-oriented positions. We would also consider scholarships and tuition repayment assistance for lower-income college-bound students or recent graduates.
When was Spero's Hope formed?
The initial idea behind Spero's Hope was incubated a number of years ago. As Human Resources professionals, Cordelia and Jean were interested in helping non-profits with their employment related initiatives. As a result of this work, we formed Spero's Hope in July 2014. Today we continue to partner with other non-profits augmenting their employment services programs.
With whom do you partner?
Our partnerships include The Doe Fund (www.doe.org), VISIONS/Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired (www.visionsvcb.org), New York Urban League (www.nyul.org), and Grace Institute (graceinstitute.org).
How can I donate?
No donation is too small! Help our fellow New Yorkers by making a tax-deductible donation. You can provide job assistance services to workers who are either unemployed or having trouble making ends meet. Alternatively, you can sponsor a fellow New Yorker for vocational training or help a lower-income college student with tuition.
We accept donations via PayPal and check. Please click or tap here to make a tax-deductible donation.
What is the general profile of your clients?
Our clients all have individual situations and needs. We work with lower-income clients who are looking to "get to the next level". We work with first-time job seekers. And we work with clients with disabilities, helping them navigate the interviewing process and educating them on their legal rights.
Where are your offices?
We are a "virtual" organization; therefore, we currently do not have office space. We meet clients in locations that are convenient to them. Through generous donations from donors, we hope to have office space in the near future.
I represent an employer. How can my firm partner with Spero's Hope?
If you employ hourly workers and/or staff without college degrees, please send us your open job requisitions. We will partner with your Human Resources staff or hiring managers in order to refer qualified candidates to you, at no cost to you!
If you are laying off an hourly workforce, Spero's Hope can provide similar services to outplacement services to your employees at no cost to you.
I represent a non-profit. We are looking to partner with another non-profit in order to help our clients with their job search.
As we would be interested in partnering with another non-profit, Spero's Hope is happy to have a conversation to determine if our goals and objectives are aligned.
How can I get involved?
Volunteers can help with resume writing, mock interviews, and conducting job searches on behalf of clients. Spero's Hope is also interested in volunteers who have fundraising and/or grant writing experience. Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering your time.
Who is eligible for tuition assistance?
Schooling is not for everyone. If we meet someone who is interested in getting an education or certificate in a field of study about which s/he is passionate, s/he may be eligible for a scholarship. Notwithstanding interest levels, all scholarships are based on financial need.
How do I learn more about your scholarship programs?
Whether you are a student interested in pursuing a trade skill certification or wanting to apply to college, please send us an email at hope@speroshope.org. Tell us about yourself and the institution to which you are applying and send us the questions you have.
If you are an organization looking to provide financial scholarships to your participants, please send an email to hope@speroshope.org telling us about your institution, programs and scholarship goals.
