Spero's Hope donates shelf-stable food to 250 families in Hamilton Heights
In addition to our pro-bono employment services, we strive to sponsor an annual
community outreach event for our New York City neighbors. With rising inflation,
food insecurity continues to be an issue for many New Yorkers. Consider these
stats which were published shortly before our event:
- "1.5 million NY residents don't know where or when they will get their next meal"
- NBC News, June 2022
-
- "36% increase in food insecurity since pre-pandemic levels"
- City Harvest, June 2022
This year, we provided approximately 250 families with various shelf-stable foods which included
rice, pasta and tomato sauce, beans, canned vegetables, canned tuna and chicken, cereal, and peanut butter.
We appreciate the food donated by New York Common Pantry and other contributions received from our generous donors.
We are also grateful for the ongoing hospitality of the pastors and congregation of St. Catherine's of Genoa in
Hamilton Heights who provide the space and many of the volunteers. Thank you to all who were involved in making
this event a success!
